After

Our minds have shifted

To flowers

And plans for summer vacation

The last snow blows in

Covers the newly greened grass

Encases the forsythia

Freezes to drooping brown wilt

Our full-bloomed magnolias.

We curse the storm.

But to the man in room 400

Whose insides rot like withered blossoms

This crystal scene

Half melted off by noon

Adds one more unexpected season

To his life

One final sparkle

To his fading eyes.

Rod--

I hope this Pause for Beauty was a mistake and not the way it will look

from here on.

The background behind the text of your message was quite dark grey,

making the black type next to invisible. My mail client is Evolution.

I truly enjoy your messages and would hate to lose them.

I enjoy the weekly messages a lot. They come at good intervals, a reminder of why we are molding our lives the way we are. My wife is a painter and I'm a photographer, and we spend half our time at our nature preserve in the Missouri Ozarks, which have a fair number of similarities to Vermont (my birthstate). It always gives a special feeling to see that others are similarly relating to nature and art, and their endless interweavings.

As I tread this path

softly

from my house to yours

tall trees reach

brown boned hands

to the sky

gently arch pale fingertips

together high above

enfolding me

in rustling soft

green prayer.

I will lead you out of gray

to walk this aisle

together

from your house

back to mine.

We will lift our eyes

and be comforted

within this sanctuary

of pure green saints.

In a place beyond time

I speak the language of stone

And adobe,

Listen to the echoes of history

In roofless, melted walls

This is my journey

I am a traveler,

An earthbound melting misfit

Whispering in the language

Of leaves and lizards,

Of rustling cottonwood leaves,

Taking pictures with my mind

This

Is my journey

Just wanted to comment on the latest Pause for Beauty. I find that one stays on track more successfully when we feel from the heart. Once we get up in our head we can think and rethink and thoroughly confuse ourselves about what is important. We lose the real essence of who we are. Feel from the heart and it all becomes clear.

Blessings.

The palpable stillness of the forest

holds me.

My pulse slows toward that of

a turtle below the frostline.

The snow covered shoulders of oak

and arms of maple

attend the silence.

Far from rigor mortis, these giants and saplings

create a cellular communion of awe and respect.

At the sanctuary of white pines

I am struck speechless and motionless again.

Were it not for the white carpet being frozen

I'd remove my shoes to enter.

Georgiou, a friend of Robert Lax , the hermit of Patmos, who knew Thomas Merton, makes this book a fascinating read. I read it and found myself delving into my own past. Highly recommended.
